Going away with Myriam Kournaf
General Manager of the Hotel Montalembert Myriam Kournaf
has been managing this cozy Parisian hotel since 2005. The young woman took on the task of dusting off this hotel, the first of its kind but one that had grown tired, supported by the Sodevila family that owns the Majestic Group. By creating the “Prix du Premier Roman de Femme” in 2006, involving the hotel in the work of Designer’s Days as a partner of the PAD, and transforming the restaurant into a place of literary gathering, Kournaf succeeded in making this prime Rive Gauche location emblematic again
Are you more of a hand-carry, trunk, suitcase, travel bag, backpack or no baggage person?
I would say “trunk”, spontaneously. When I use the word “trunk”, I mean “suitcase” of course, but the word “trunk” fits me quite well.
I don’t know how to travel light but I would love to! People call me “Elizabeth Taylor”! I admire my friends who go on a trip with just the basics. I’m incorrigible. I always bring all kinds of outfits for all kinds of occasions. But I only ever use half of it…
Are you a globetrotter or a homebody?
Between both. I love traveling, I travel for business and pleasure but I also enjoy staying at my home
Espadrilles or Mocassins?
Diving flippers and flip flops! I never leave without my flip flops and my flippers. Both accessories are like parts of me! It’s always nice to enjoy the swimming pools of the hotels after a day of business meetings. I am a sea lover. I do not like sports but I am a swimmer! I swim and go snorkeling just because I like the freedom you have when you’re swimming
Favourite destinations and hotels?
For hotels, the Montalembert is my favorite of course! My ideal would be to transpose the Montalembert into a coastal environment!
But the “distant cousins” of the Montalembert could be the Mercer in NY, The Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles and Le Prince Maurice in Mauritius.
For destinations, it would preferably be towards the Indian Ocean or the Pacific Ocean and of course the Mediterranean Sea.
When I speak of the sea, I am thinking about the wild side of it. I love being connected with nature to rejuvenate myself, admire the beauty of it, solitude, silence and calm. The opposite of Paris in other terms!
What do you bring back from your travels?
Sun and a head full of memories. And beautiful encounters
What would be your definition of the perfect trip or your best holiday memories?
A successful trip for me is in the great outdoors, in nature. Surrounded by beauty, rest, silence, calm, with a total disconnection from civilization. I need to travel by myself once a year, preferably facing the sea, to rest and relax on my own
Your recent travels?
Corsica and Mauritius. I love the beauty of Corsica. I’m from Nice but I am also a Corsican in my heart!
I attach a fuschia pink bandana to recognize my suitcase. On board, I always put my perfume in the outside pocket. I also bring pure oil for the body, Esthederm moisturizing cream, a L’Occitane lip balm , my pashmina for my throat, a book and music. And I always have something to eat because I never eat anything from the food tray and never drink any alcohol on board
