The world of… Elisa Bally
Marie Le Fort
Settled on the island of Saint-Barth’s, decorator and “aesthetic interior” designer Elisa Bally creates spaces that blend into the surrounding landscape. A humbling experience where the stars vie for attention.
A self-taught interior designer, Elisa Bally has the talent of a self-made person. As if her eyes – playful, persevering, sharp – dictated an invisible path, defining a perfect field. She has a gift for knowing colours and their density, for beautiful materials and fragile ceramics, for sketches and artistic photographs that seem to mark each moment of her day. After the merited success that was the renovation of the Guanahani spa, accented with muted gray, sunny yellow, and deep aubergine, Elisa Bally has been given a residence with several hundred square meters of space to work with.
Designed by Philippe Stouvenot, the sober architecture, spread over several levels, gives it a winged fluidity. Perched on a hillside, with terraces and bay windows, solariums and bathrooms open to infinity, Elisa could not wait to bring the colours and reflections of the beach, the wet sand and the surf below, to the architecture of this unique place. A perspective that anchors the home in its environment more than anything. Flowing with bluish greys and matte silver, Elisa has not only created a range of unique colours to dress each room in a soothing wave, but she also designed a custom-made suspension which mimics, in a spiral, the movement of a firefly making circles in the Caribbean waters.
Chosen with care, woven outdoor furniture by Paola Navone punctuates passageways and terraces with atonal notes, suitable for contemplation or, conversely, for long evenings of conversation. This is a residence that will stand the test of time. And for those who would like to discover her sensible universe, her showroom is like an extension of her personality – at once delicate and determined.
