Going away with…Chantal Thomass
We now present to you luxury lingerie designer Chantal Thomass, whose capsule collections for ready-to-wear retailers sell out in a matter of minutes. She has just opened an intimate and charming hotel in Paris, the Vice Versa. Meet the charming globetrotter…
Are you more of a hand-carry, trunk, suitcase, travel bag, backpack or no baggage person?
I always take a suitcase, a big suitcase, or even a trunk. Wherever I go, whether I go away for two days or two weeks, I always bring everything!
Are you more of a globetrotter or a homebody?
I’m a globetrotter of cities. Those are the trips that leave me with the most memories. I love ambling through the streets, the museums, the monuments, and generally soaking up the urban atmosphere
Are you more espadrilles or moccasins? Beach or asphalt?
I’m more of a boots and ballet flats kind of girl, for comfort. They’re more practical for my asphalt-prone ways, considering my love for cities
What are your favourite hotels and destinations?
I really like the W hotels in Hong Kong, New York or Miami. But I also love the Peninsula in Hong Kong, the Mandria in Miami, the Standard and the Chateau Marmot in Los Angeles. And of course Shanghai, Rome and London…
What do you bring back from your travels?
Post cards from all the areas that I visited and loved so that I’m able to find them again on my next trip and lots of clothes shopping, of course! And when I go to Italy, I always bring back olive oil, pasta, mozzarella and Parmesan…
What would be your idea of the perfect trip?
Four days away at least, to appreciate the change of scenery. And the hotel must be beautiful, surprising and original. I like discovering unknown areas, local brands. For example, a few weeks ago in Hong Kong, I stumbled across a boutique that had a connection with the Bible. Off-beat? Sure! It’s name? Amen Papa. Different, no?
What is your first holiday memory?
My first trip to India, a very long time ago now. The Palace of Rajasthan, the Taj Mahal…it was truly magnificent. But it is always a marvel when you arrive somewhere for the first time. I remember all my first times. In a few weeks, I’m going to Taiwan and Stockholm for the first time and I am so excited. And my favourite beach destination will always be the Seychelles
