at the Mucem, Marseille

Barque, afters, bricks, tartans, cargo ships, passenger ships, tankers … All these boats, left the Marseille port to cross the Mediterranean and “beyond Suez” dear to Louis Brauquier are kept models reduced by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Marseille in Provence, in the secret corridors of the Palais de la Bourse. In the early twenty-first century, these fragile models have kept intact their fascination. They rekindle in us the love child of fabulous trips … They reflect the evolution of naval techniques … And they also reveal the incredible talent of designers, boat builders of the eighteenth century or simple “ship lovers” often realized after hundreds of hours of work, true works of art. Following the CCI Marseille Provence, Mucem wanted to get to the light these ships that sail in our collective unconscious. Here are a hundred models gathered on the mirror of the waves, all scales and eras, and staged by the contemporary artist Stephan Muntaner.
Until October 24th. www.mucem.org
