“Mazerolle, history of a leading interior designer” at La Piscine, Roubaix.
Alexis-Joseph Mazerolle was one of the most popular artists of his generation and has decorated the private mansions of princes, politicians and leading industrialists.
Indeed, Theatre Baden-Baden, the Opera Garnier, the great theater of Angers, the Drama Conservatory and the Paris stock exchange all still have large compositions by the painter. Forgotten as a result of the loss of part of his work and because of his membership of the academic stream, which was highly criticised in the twentieth century, Mazerolle deserves to be paid tribute to. This retrospective shows the journey and working methods of an artist in accordance with his time and highlights his originality.
