Through works on printed canvas, this exhibitions allows visitors to rediscover the ideas and events which fascinated society at the end of the 18th century and in the first half of the 19th century.

The character based canvases, loyal to the neo-classical canons fashionable at the time, often represent ancient heros whilst others depict literary, military or scientific heros and scenes from the contemporary world. They also show the flight of the first hot air-balloons and even historically significant naval battles. These ultra-narrative paintings were primarily produced by the Jouey-en-Josas manufacture which was founded by Christophe-Philippe Oberkamps in 1760.
