« XU Zhen, MadeIn Company » at the Galerie Nathalie Obadia, Paris.
For his third collaboration with the gallery, Chinese artist Xu Zhen is offering a selection of six large-format works.
These paintings, from the Prey series, were made using photographic records taken by a team from the MadeIn Company of rundown housing in the provinces of Sichuan and Guizhou, China. With this series, Xu Zhen comments ironically on the aesthetic connections between art and poverty. Made with a perfect mastery of oil painting, traditional framing and Flemish chiaroscuro inspiration, the classical treatment of the images lends a certain majesty and nobility to these poor, rural interiors. Disturbing.
Until July 25.
