"Anselm Kieffer" at the Centre Pompidou, Paris.
First retrospective in France since the 80's devoted to the German artist, the exhibition invites visitors to browse the entire career of Anselm Kieffer through nearly one hundred and fifty works including sixty paintings, installations and works on paper.
For this project, the artist produced in 2015 a set of forty showcases on the themes of alchemy and Kabbalah, for which he went to tap into a “potential reserve” an arsenal of objects waiting for redemption. These environments involve the dislocated and saturnine universe of a bygone industrial age: old machines, pieces of rusted scrap metal, plants, photographs … away from cabinets of curiosities, that’s the mystery of their presence that Anselm Kieffer aims to point out, issuing a mystery light specific to alchemy.
