«Pearls» at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.

Exhibition «Pearls» at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London: © A selection of natural pearls from the Qatar Museums Authority collection Creutz

Presented thanks to special loans from the Museums of Qatar, this exhibition features incredible pieces that magnify pearls in all their forms.

Whether its an earring worn by Charles I at his execution in 1649 or a necklace given by Joe DiMaggio to Marilyn Monroe,

pearls hold a special place in the world of jewelry. Appreciated since the Haute Antiquité period, they symbolize both wealth and health as evidenced by the historical documents submitted. Over the centuries, the fascination that the beads have exercised over men and women is reflected in the ingenuity of known or anonymous jewelers who knew how magnify them in some truly amazing creations.
