The Heydar Aliyev Cultural Centre

One might think of Brasília, the Brazilian capital characterized by retro-futuristic buildings when admiring the incredible Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center. But if the rolling shapes of the building give this impression, one quickly realizes that the ultra-modern materials used here place this complex firmly in this century. It was the star architect of the moment Zaha Hadid who committed this amazing feat. The color white dominates and dazzles the visitor from the moment they enter this museum and conference center. In all honesty, right now it looks more like an empty shell – both the “history” museum in honor of the father of the current President of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev and the exhibition of arts and local traditions barely fill the gigantic architectural space provided by this UFO. In any case, the financial resources of the Ilham Aliyev regime are so vast that Baku can afford provide this cavernous space without having any idea what they will next exhibit inside it. For now, it merely represents the work of an architect who brilliantly used their art to express themselves without constraint…
