La Maison d'Ulysse, Uzès

This ancient fortified farm from the sixteenth century was the home of poet, photographer and archaeologist Ulysse Dumas. Transformed with its silk farm into a guesthouse in 2009, it is today one of the most beautiful stops surrounding the Pont du Gard. Faithful to the Camargue spirit, high in colors, Guy and Gauthier know how to surprise us, using the contrasts between old patinas and arty pieces. As true lovers of Provence, they grew all emblematic species of the region in their extraordinary garden, typically Mediterranean. An atypical place.
What room ? The Belle du Seigneur suite, in the oldest part of the property, with French ceiling, fireplace and … voutins or in family, the Ecume des jours suite, a huge mezzanine loft with a view of the countryside .
What we like: the power breakfast, with local cheeses, cold meats, smoked salmon. A beautiful start of the day for lovers.
What we love: the traditional hammam, scented with eucalyptus.
Good to know: the heated pool until late October.
What to do around? We walk to Uzès, we go to the local market – a reference of its kind – before getting lost in the vineyards of the Baron region.

From 195 € the double room. 45 minutes from Avignon train station, 40 minutes from Nîmes airport and one hour from Montpellier airport. www.lamaisondulysse.com
