Antoine Chevanne’s suitcase
Marie Le Fort
Whether at Byblos and Les Caves du Roy in Saint-Tropez, at the Black Legend in Monaco, at La Réserve in Saint-Jean-de-Luz or at the Manoirs de Tourgéville, Antoine Chevanne feels right at home. But this must be normal for the CEO of the Groupe Floirat, who run these luxury establishments. A great traveller, he also journeys the world in search of the next hottest spot. Recently, he launched a bag made specifically to accompany upscale travellers, the “Valise du Gentleman”. It holds all the essentials: a very upscale hifi system, a cigar box and toiletries, all designed and made by Pinel & Pinel. And a personal touch can be added to each one, such as a cashmere sweater or swimsuit…
Are you more of a hand-carry, trunk, suitcase, travel bag, backpack or no baggage person?
More of a travel bag person…until the Valise du Gentleman was created! Otherwise, a Pinel & Pinel bag for pleasure and for business travel, I have three different sizes of Samsonite trolleys from the Business Series. They are indestructible
What are the essentials for your suitcase?
Toiletries, my iPad, a cigar box, watches, sunglasses…as well as all the classic things such as underwear, jeans, sneakers, shirts (white of course)
What do you bring back from your trips?
Photos and products that can be found only in the countries I’ve visited. One way to extend the trip a little at home!
What are your favorite destination and hotel?
I love Brazil! Especially the neighbourhood of Santa Teresa in Rio de Janeiro. Here you can really feel the vibrations and energy of the Cariocas. I also love Trancoso for the authentic village feel and a quality beach break. Hotel wise, I love the Fasano hotels. The rooftop pool of the Fasano in Rio is the perfect place to sip coconut water at sunset. But I must confess a preference for the one in Sao Paolo, because of its interior design created by Isay Weinfled
Do you have any memories of memorable trips?
The Amanpulo, in the Philippines, located on a private beach; magic. A memorable massage ritual atop a cliff at the Bulgari hotel in Bali. And the most beautiful sunset on the island of Bazaruto in Mozambique
Take your time! Never pack a suitcase in a hurry. And start with what takes up the most space. In extreme emergencies, the Valise du Gentleman will be ready anyway in the trunk of the car…
