Le Hameau des Baux: a summer Eden in the Alpilles

Ludovic Bischoff

A true boutique hotel where you can come away with the vintage furniture from the rooms and offer yourself a romantic escape in a retro convertible. That’s the winning formula of your summer at the Hameau des Baux, a small family hotel in the Alpilles.

  • A rare find!

Do not search anymore. We found the little Eden of your dreams this summer in the Alpilles! Le Hameau des Baux is a rare find. A reconstituted Provencal village , with its square protected by plane trees, its old Citroën truck where one prepares simple dishes to be enjoyed under the stars. A village with houses and farmhouses where we lodge in vast rooms, each of them tastefully decorated. And furnished with tables, chairs, armchairs or lights from the 50s to 90s that we can buy!

  • An authentic boutique hotel

That’s the right idea of the Hameau des Baux who wants to be an authentic boutique hotel where you can buy vintage antique furniture by Jean-Eric Floureusse and his wife, the owners with an antique soul. Each room has a nice leather label that specifies the date of its issue, its origin and its… price. Customers leave regularly with a piece of furniture from their room which allows the hotel to change the decoration.

  • Gastronomy and art

We also like the beautiful cuisine from the Table du Hameau whose menu was designed by chef José Maréchal, the “pope” of kitchen jar, many cookbooks author and chef of his own restaurant in Trans-en-Provence (La Grotte). And the policy support to artists of the owners who order every year works a ceramist, painter and photographer. Their work adorns the walls of the rooms and the large lounge where you take a drink in the evening by the fireplace. Good point, too, the ceramic pieces commissioned from artists that we find at the table, such as the delicate “paper porcelain”coffee cups by Juli About.

  • A little forgotten paradise

A beautiful boutique selling pieces from designers and local producers makes the hotel a living place open to the outside. Just as the small bookstore created in partnership with Actes Sud. More than 300 novels, children’s books and art publications are for sale. Ideal when you’ve finished reading your summer book by the pool! You will understand, everything has been designed with taste and intelligence in this small residence of art that multiplies the cinema or musical evenings in summer. We are look for the mistake but we can’t find it. Even the picnic is chic and glamorous. Prepared by the chef, we take our snack and rent one of the Hameau retro convertibles for a trip around Les Baux de Provence. At the wheel of an Alfa Romeo Spider 1966 or 1956 Triumph TR4, hair in the wind, smiling under the Southern sun, we share a ride with the assurance that the return to the Hameau will be a sweetness that you can savor with the feeling of being privileged in this little forgotten paradise …
