Lyon is chilling out

Bourgeois, Lyon ? No way…At least not on the surface, looking at the gastronomic addresses that have been around for decades. On the contrary, the silk capital is brimming with creativity and enthusiasm, attempting to bring speak easy bars back into fashion, iconic architecture that belongs firmly in the 21st century, vintage furniture sourced from the four corners of Europe and designer brands from New York and Scandinavia. Just like the Biennale that is going to cause a storm, this Fall, beyond the borders of the Hexagon, Lyon is chilling out and becoming emancipated. A selection of addresses.

Eskis
At 27, Samuel Desjobert has developed a thoughtful and sophisticated type of cuisine that the Lyonnais don’t trust and refer to as “complex”. On the contrary, it is alluring and inspiring, solidified by his experience in the kitchen of Pierre Reboul, she has created a world tour within this minimalist setting – exposed stone and walls covered in grass – designed by Patrice Bolénor.

The main idea was this: to deliver the unexpected and surprise them with a list of poetic ingredients – artichokes, granny smiths, yuzu, celery, combawa, lobster, rhubarb, shitake, Beaufort, blood oranges – that combine to make something more than perfect.

Le Dixième

This sharp, minimalist loft brings together three friends that are passionate about culture and fashion – Justin, Robin and Vu-Quan. Their eye has selected the rest : Acne, Surface to Air, April-May, Commune de Paris 1871, Band of Outsiders and Sjaak Hullekes… For a minute, it’s as though you’re in Manhattan or Stockholm. They are even the sole European stockists of New York brand, Shipley & Halmos.

RBC Mobilier

RBC Mobilier
To accommodate all the big names listed in their catalogue, it took space. Lots of space. And so it was in the famous Cube Orange, designed by the iconic Parisian architects Jakob & MacFarlane, that the master of RBC contemporary décor, Franck Argentine, took up residence.

Un Château en Espagne

A castle in Spain
Damask linen towels and 19th century hemp kitchen towels, a collection of American quilts, a Swedish table dating back to 1800 and even light bulbs from a 1950’s factory. Marie-Lise Dulac-Fery collects, organises and mixes styles and sources with a rare talent, as though she herself had escaped from a historic novel.

L’Antiquaire

L’Antiquaire
After having rung the Angelus, the bar L’Antiquaire is revealed behind a heavy curtain in a speak easy manner worthy of the illustrious hours of the Prohibition. Run by Marc Bonneton, jacket and tie in tact, this unassuming cocktail bar has the art of the good life engrained in its walls: glasses and chiné decanters, old shakers, mixologists from the Waldorf Astoria, vintage Vermouth and Martini posters, art deco typo…
