Fred Pinel – Soft leather…
Marie Le Fort
The talent of Fred Pinel mixes with humor, audacity and cheekiness in his studio in Montmartre. Now enshrined in the heart of Parisian life with his new shop on rue Royale, the luxury leather goods maker is no exception to tradition: made-to-measure, each piece carries the precise and meticulous savoir-faire of the craft…made with a touch of insanity and more!
The ultra-colorful, unusual trunks from Fred Pinel are portrayed like characters in a novel. Slightly street, yet chic, first we have the ‘Malle Bike’ (2004) – that comes with a foldable Brompton bike – closely followed by the ‘Arcade 80’s’, a modern jukebox covered in plum-coloured perforated leather, lined with 1800 watts speakers. Then we have the ‘Soprano’ trunk for Bang & Olufsen, that modernizes the definition of contemporary luxury, as does the ponyskin ‘Pic Nic’ kit created for Krug. And last of all, the ‘Malle Martell’ embodies the essence of the cognac house and three hundred years of savoir-faire. Faced with these colored jewel cases, in blood red or midnight blue, many wannabe dandies and neo-aristocrats seem to rush to the balcony.
At Fred Pinel, the miracle of the beauty lies within. Creative, and respectful of the rules and savoir-faire of craftsmanship, he is also a little bit mad. Each trunk is deliberately made to be overwhelming, to an unreasonable extent, with a bold idea, bringing excellence to the service of passion and beauty. His wish: to condense the spirit of a place we would like to carry on our person into a small volume. A veritable luxury. His new store opened in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, on the 22nd of July, on rue Royale.
