The World of Asya Kozina

The craft paper creations of Asya Kozina.
Extremely fragile, the craft paper creations of Asya Kozina are whispering to our ears and are giving back the fleeting echo of a trend that has forgotten its true condition, doomed to vanish in smoke. But in the extraordinary acceptance imposed by the paper, clothing, created forms are only more present and bound to impose their presence by the relentless perfection of their cut. The art of clothing pushed to its essence: custom-made, to be used and dissolved, in the grace of the moment.

The art of Asya Kosina, it is also through her baroque wigs, wedding dresses, Mongolian costumes,

Venice carnival masks, luxury universe of a bygone elegance, magically resurrected under the extraordinary precision cutter gesture that suddenly seems to breathe life, here and gone. As if the recreated form had the power to recall the soul. Magician, Asya was born in 1984 at the edge of the Dnieper, in Dnipropetrovsk, a large industrial city in Ukraine dominated by Stalinist architecture, where after a degree from an art school, a scholarship from the Viktor Pinchuk Foundation, influential business man and philanthropist politician, has allowed her to propel herself on the art scene. Winner of the Ukrainian Art Week Award in 2010, she lives and works in Russia in St. Petersburg.

Her first solo exhibition in Ukraine in 2007, was called “a passion for white”,

inaugurating a dozen different themes inspired by history and made of white paper. Her latest project, “Baroque paper wigs” perfectly illustrates her fascination for Baroque wigs.

“The paper, she says, helps to highlight the main shape and not be obsessed with unnecessary details. This is art for art, aesthetics for aesthetics, there are no practical purpose behind.”

But her inspiration is also rooted in the history of Ukraine and Russia, even Siberia and the shamanic culture of the indigenous who hunt her imagination. There, women are the priestesses of a world where they tame minds. A bit like Asya with her craft paper creations.
