December 2013

It’s Now

Every week, PLUME VOYAGE magazine puts together a selection of cultural news and international exhibitions for you to keep up with on your getaways or city breaks. Come and check out It’s Now!

This month, our choice begins with the ephemeral Gallery Mandalian Paillard at the Minéral Lodge at Les Arcs in the French Alps, the Louis Vuitton pop up store in Courchevel and the exhibitions “Pearls” at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, “Vivid Memories. An Aboriginal Art History” at the Aquitaine museum in Bordeaux. Go visit them, it’s happening now!

  • Louis Vuitton opens a pop-up store in Courchevel.

As of December 13th, Louis Vuitton is opening a temporary space in the heart of Courchevel Village 1850.

In an architectural setting inspired by the typical and traditional chalets of the Haute-Savoie, the maison will present a selection of products specially dedicated to their Courchevel

clientele and its unique lifestyle. A new signature style, the Capucines bag will be available in new pastel colors.
    Until 6 April 2014

  • Ephemeral gallery Mandalian Paillard the Mineral Lodge, Meadow behind Villaroger.

After the success of the summer exhibitions at the Villa Noailles and the Templier tours in Hyères, the Mandalian Paillard gallery has invaded the Mineral

Lodge for an outstanding exhibition of architects of twentieth century furniture. The work of Charlotte Perriand and Marcel Breuer is to be displayed therefore in an architectural setting where each work has its proper place, blending seamlessly into the surroundings.

The creations will come to life as they are integrated into a bustling residential area. The temporary gallery will then be moving to the heart of the valley of Haute Tarentaise, in a hamlet at the foot of Les Arcs, which owes so much to the creative genius of Charlotte Perriand.
    From 14 December to 30 January 2014

  • «Living memories. A history of aboriginal art» at the Musée d'Aquitaine, Bordeaux.

Long since conceived as a prototype of "primitive" art, through this exhibition Aboriginal art is revealed to both ancient and modern.

Ephemeral sand frescos, paintings on the body or rock, woodcarvings that have since been transposed into new mobile and permanent media: bark, paintings, photographs, videos and installations. Many Aborigine artists of various intercultural influences now reinterpret the material culture of their ancestors and give it a new meaning. A true renaissance that presents this exhibition with contemporary works by many artists, including those of Brook Andrew.
    Until 30 March 2014

  • «Pearls» at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.

Presented thanks to special loans from the Museums of Qatar, this exhibition features incredible pieces that magnify pearls in all their forms.

Whether its an earring worn by Charles I at his execution in 1649 or a necklace given by Joe DiMaggio to Marilyn Monroe,

pearls hold a special place in the world of jewelry. Appreciated since the Haute Antiquité period, they symbolize both wealth and health as evidenced by the historical documents submitted. Over the centuries, the fascination that the beads have exercised over men and women is reflected in the ingenuity of known or anonymous jewelers who knew how magnify them in some truly amazing creations.
