- Caravaggio and the Master of Hartford" at the Galleria Borghese, Rome

As part of the Roman artistic life of the sixteenth century, the Borghese Gallery has a superb exhibition devoted to successive evolutions of Caravaggio’s painting. Around 1597, he painted the famous Canestra preserved at the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana in Milan, which marks a real break in his work and the birth of a pictorial genre still little used in Italy. For the first time, the “natural things » come their way onto the canvas, as faithful representation of the liberated nature of the human figure. Whoever becomes the Master of Hartford, personality distinct from that of Caravaggio, will specialize in still life and give them their credentials.
