It is a little known fact that the legendary architect (1923-2016), designer of the church Sainte-Bernadette of Nevers, practitioner and theorist of the oblique function, had performed his military service with André Courrèges and began his career as a fashion illustrator. In January-February 2016, the couturier Azzedine Alaïa devoted an exhibition to the dialogue maintained by the architect with his younger Jean Nouvel from unrealized museum projects – the last exhibition that saw Claude Parent, who died on 27 February, the day before the end of the exhibition. From the summer of 2015 to February 2016, Claude Parent had undertaken a series of fashion illustrations inspired by the creations of Azzedine Alaïa; these ink drawings, reworked with his little son Laszlo Parent, crossed a silver line marking the forward momentum of the garment, are attempts to understand an art he considered his neighbor – an art of living.
