A Break in Vosges, Gerardmer and its Grand Hotel

By Clara Le Fort

Perfect for an adventure between fresh air and dense forests, Les Vosges offers a total escape: closer to the Alps and less austere than Le Jura, it was perfectly discovered by Gérardmer and its Grand Hôtel.

  • Gérardmer and his lake

We all often dream of escaping Paris for a fresh weekend: a hotel with a view, sublime spa and regional products are forever the ideal trio. But when it comes to buying tickets, we never really know where to go…Just three short hours from Paris on the TVG Est, Gérardmer is located beside a placid and mysterious lake. The perfect escape in any season, Gérardmer is both bourgeois and sporty, sophisticated and foodie.

  • Chênes Blancs Spa

This is the spa from your dreams in the heart of Vosges, its pine forests and blue lakes. At the Grand Hôtel de Gérardmer, a simple posthouse transformed into a treatment centre in 1888, the Chênes Blancs spa represents a deep breath of fresh air: cork-oak walls and wooden slats mirror the façade of a traditional chalet. Here, the ceiling is covered into autumnal foliage: and there, cork-oak and fur adorn the walls.

  • Seasonal Interiors

Dreamed up by Fabienne Remy in partnership with the Adea-MG agency, the interior design plays upon natural elements, the turning of the seasons and a naturally Vosges identity, inviting the external landscape indoors. On a stormy day or during high winds, you can opt to hole up in the steamy Heat Center (120m2 at 34 degrees where hammam, a sauna, sensory corridor and a salt water bath are all on offer) or beneath an autumnal canopy, wrapped up under a warm blanket.

  • Air des Neiges

A reflection of Vosges’ surrounding nature, the Air des Neiges treatment made the name of this spa, winner of the Best Treatment award (as part of the 6th Spa Clientele Trophy 2014). After a Luffa flake exfoliation, move onto a detoxifying envelopment in Fujian white tea: the draining brush pen massages then follow, before a fresh detoxing gel from Buddeja des Alpes is applied all over the body. 2 hours of Vosgien happiness allow you to recover from a long walk or Munster feast, potatoes and other Vosgiens knacks.
