DENDROMORPHIES – CREATING WITH THE TREE

PLUME

The contemporary art historian Paul Ardenne, close to works that escape from all aesthetic classification, proposes “Dendromorphie”, an exhibition of works by sixteen contemporary artists on the theme of the tree. New in the range of exhibitions devoted to this theme in recent years, this one chooses diversity: one artist privileges the classical notion of the “tree of life” (Sara Conti), grafting if necessary the obsessions of her own creation (Clorinde Coranotto, Iris Crey, Aurélie Gravas). Another, inclined to celebrate the plastic beauty of the tree, gives flattering versions (Laurent Perbos) or rich symbolic inspiration (Patrick Van Caeckenbergh). Some people have at heart the theme of rootedness (Askhat Akhmedyarov, Abdul Rahman Katanani), others, that of omnipresence (Persijn Broersen & Margit Lukács, Thomas Lévy-Lasne) when others are part of a Ecological process of recycling (Laurent Tixador), multiplication (Ackroyd & Harvey) or biochemical alchemy (Sam Van Aken). It is attributed the power of speech (Sean Capone), it is made up of totemic sculptures (Fabrice Langlade), its overuse is oriented for speculative purposes by globalized capitalism (Khvay Samnang).
